Day 17: Dawson City - Westfork Campground / Alaska

The morning starts slowly, until I have sorted out, packed and cleared everything. We say goodbye to each other and I ride into the city to look for a new plastic box for the gasoline stove and ask again for a workshop.

Unfortunately, I can not find a workshop today that can deal with my repairs promptly. I do not want to spend the whole day in Dawson and could actually do most of the work with the right tools. So I call from the Tourist Information to the Motorcycle Campground in Tok to query which tools will be available there.

Then I'm off, crossing the Yukon with a ferry and driving up to the Top-of-the-World-Highway. Very nice views, but clouded by smoke of some fires.

The border post to Alaska is quite small and when asked if he wants to see my ESTA papers, the answer is "Esther lives in Tok". Otherwise it's funny too. The border official inside greets me with appraising eyes and an "Oh, another victim!". I give my fingerprints, but everything is easy. The $ 6 fee I have to pay in cash, however, because neither card payment nor Canadian dollars are accepted - lucky that I have some dollars with me (later I learn from another traveler, that if you have no dollars, you will not have to pay, because the American government is indeed responsible for setting up appropriate payment options). The official then offers me to take a photo of me on the bike in front of the border sign (so I get some value for my $ 6!), Really everything totally relaxed.

Shortly after the border there's a junction and I decide to make the detour to Eagle Village, which was recommended to me several times by other travelers. My bike is working fine. Fuel should be enough. A great valley, a distance of about a hundred kilometers. The gas station attendant in Eagle Village is a really strange guy, absolutely Trump supporter and a setting as from a Taratino movie.

I can not get to Tok today, but I find a beautiful campsite offering a site reserved for motorcycles and cyclists. Nice location with a nice view.
