Day 07: Vanderhoof - Meziadin Junction
It seems to have rained a lot during the night, but I did not notice it. I had earplugs in my ears.
This morning we get up at 7:30. I make a few backups of pictures and then we get ready to go.
In a Canadian-German hotel in town I have my first Canadian breakfast: 2 eggs, bacon, potatoes, toast and jam - very tasty and nutritious. I chat a little bit with the chef, who lives and works here for 32 years and actually comes from Hamburg, as well as his already deceased employer.
We then make some pace up to Kitwanga. Somewhere Trevor drew my attention to the first black bear and for a moment I can see him as well. We take a short turn onto the gravel road, where we spotted him, but the bear has already disappeared.
In Kitwanga, after a small photo session, we head north on the Stewart-Cassiar Highway. Our target is a provincial campground, which is still to ride a distance of about 160 km, and on which we luckily get the last free site.
Unfortunately, no pitch-up-tent beer today. They don't sell alcohol at the petrol station nearby and riding another 60 km to Stewart is too far. I attempt to get some beer from other campers - for example from an older German couple - but I'm unfortunately unsuccessful. So no beer for pitching up tents today. So we get some cool down in the lake. Refreshing at about 18 degrees.
After that, we have some ready-to-eat meal. You just need to add boiled water. We've got some of that kind in Calgary. Fills the belly and is ok.
