Day 20: Glennalen - Anchorage / Harley-Davidson-Campground
Unfortunately, it rained hard tonight, not so pleasant, and I have to pack up the tent in slightly wet condition. Nevertheless, I break up fairly early. In the neighboring town (Glennallen), I fuel up and refill oil and buy some other supplies. It is incredible, how fast you get into some talk to people here!
I turn off from the Richardson Highway (#4) onto the Glenn Hwy (#1) towards Anchorage. Very impressive are two glaciers, which can be seen from the road. The landscapes are just stunningly beautiful. The weather is getting better and I have a nice ride.
In Anchorage I try to find the "The Motorcycle Shop" (where I can get a new visor) using my GPS device for hiking and my mobile phone.
Insertion: I'm using my German SIM card, as I actually had a signal on the campground last night - probably because it was very close to a town. Otherwise it is and remains difficult to communicate.
Actually, the directions given to me by "The Motorcycle Shop" by phone were correct, but I missed it a couple of times. When I finally find it, I realize that it has closed since 4pm and it's closed on Sunday and - unfortunately - on Monday.
I then ask people about the direction to the Harley Davidson campground, where there is a small patch of grass that the owner made available for travelers to camp. In a room in the Harley-Davidson store building, accessible from the outside by PIN code, you can have a hot shower, there's a toilet and a sink and also a WiFi in the shop! And that's all free of charge - absolutely great! I sign up for oil and tire changes on Tuesday (the workshop also has closed on Sundays and Mondays).
