Day 41: Johnston Canyon Lodge - Excursion
In the morning Brigitte is very dizzy and she still does not know if she wants to do anything at all. We have an appointment with Trevor, who comes by car from Calgary at 10 am.
Together with him we drive to the Radium Hot Springs, which is about 100 kilometers distance. On the way, many minor roads and hikes are closed, as there is still a risk of wildfires and we also see some firefighters fighting fire nests.
The hot springs are doing incredibly well after yesterday's ice shock and we enjoy them for almost 2 hours. Then we have lunch and on the way back we have two very nice little walks of about an hour. One walk leads along the Marble Canyon, with views into the deep canyon onto the river. In some places, the canyon is so narrow that you think you can jump over it. We prefer not to try it. The second walk leads us through dense forests across meadows with clay soils into a bizarre landscape. The mineral-containing soil is sometimes yellow, sometimes red. The small ponds tend to be green. Very nice to look at. This is not a tourist's hotspot. It is much less busy than the road between Banff and Jasper.
Back at our lodge we do a 1.5 hour walk along seven waterfalls. A nice end for this day and we'll be back in time for dinner.
Trevor stays with us in the cabin for the night and we finish the evening with a bottle of red wine brought by him.
A wonderful relaxing day. Thanks to Trevor.
