Day 09: Kinaskan Lake - Sawmill Point Recreation Site (at Dease Lake)
Today we make a detour to Telegraph Creek, an important town during the time of the Gold Rush, which today has only 265 inhabitants. Many broken houses, a pretty church.
At the intersection of Dease Lake, where you turn onto the gravel road to Telegraph Creek, there is the only gas station in the area and we have a second breakfast or lunch there and chat with two locals.
The route to Telegraph Creek is a nice ride, but you do not see much. On the last 20 km the view becomes more exciting and the landscape opens into a canyon. We are looking at eagles and a black bear. Trevor is even lucky enough to see the first black grizzly of his life standing up next to the street to watch him. Too close for a photo stop!
We go back the same way, refuel at the same gas station, eat something again, still have no network in the place and continue north to our next campsite. The trick with the pitch-up-tent beer is to buy it during the day and put it into a bag with some ice and thus be supplied in the evening. A Ortlieb bag makes it possible.
At the campground we chat a bit with an older Canadian lady with a hippie past and a German girl who is traveling solo.
The last two days we had internet nowhere. The communication situation remains difficult.
