Day 47: Schoen Lake - Telegraph Cove

The night is quiet and cozy and cold again - Brigitte does not sleep well because of the cold, Wolle because of the thinking about his mother. After breakfast we chat with the other people from the campground at the lakeside, at 11am we leave.

John and Joni told us, Cape Scott in the North is very beautiful. However, the weather forecasts for Port Hardy are not really good. So we decide to ride to Telegraph Cove/Port McNeill and register for a Whale Watching Tour.

The #19 from Campbell River on does not run along the coast and we ride between more or less impenetrable green walls of forest and bushes. Telegraph Cove proves to be a picturesque, quite touristy place.

A whale tour is only available for Saturday, 3:30pm. Now our usual patterns start to work: Brigitte would book immediately, Wolle wants to try other options. So we drive to a lodge that also offers whale tours, but the lodge is fully booked, and the tours are the same as from Port McNeill. So, to avoid riding up and down, we decide for Telegraph Cove (about $120 per person for 3 hours) and pitch up our tent on the local campground. Not the best in terms of cleanliness and facilities, but nicely located. We have to get supplies from Port McNeill. And because this time we stay for two nights, there will be the luxury of eggs with bacon for breakfast! We have fresh sushi this evening, the day was long again and this is a comfortable and tasty option for dinner.

After dinner we walk to the bay nearby the campground. Pretty it is, but unfortunately it starts to rain. So we only spend half an hour there and later learn that we just missed a bear with a baby by a few minutes. What a pity.
