Day 30: Ísafjörður – Bolungarvík – Ísafjörður

A long, quiet night. Breakfast outdoors – something we haven’t done in a while.

In Ísafjörður, our first stop is the West Tours office. We want to find out if a boat transfer to Hornstrandir is possible so we can do a hike in the nature reserve that was recommended to us yesterday. It is possible, but the cost – to Aðalvík and back from Hesteyri – works out to around 500 euros!!! That’s too much for a day trip, and we aren’t equipped for a multi-day hike; we’re missing a tent and sleeping mats, and – well – while the weather is supposed to be nice tomorrow, it’s forecast to be very rainy again by Wednesday.

We visit the bakery (you simply can’t find firm bread here), buy fish for dinner at the fish shop (great selection), have pizza at Husið, and consider going for a swim. But 29 degrees in the local pool is just too warm for swimming laps.

We end up going for a swim in Bolungarvík instead. We drove up there hoping to catch a nice view of the snow-capped mountains across the fjord, but the clouds are hanging so low that the drive up the mountain isn't worth it.

We’re staying a second night in Ísafjörður; if the weather is good tomorrow, we can always drive to Bolungarvík again.
