Day 20: Stykkishólmur – Akranes
After I got to bed late the night before, I start slowly today. In the morning I take another look at the town by foot. I want to look for an Icelandic sweater for Brigitte in the shop with locally made products. Unfortunately, the shop doesn't open until 12:30 p.m. So I either have to wait that long or look elsewhere.
I'm slow anyways and need quite a long time until I've packed everything and I'm ready. So I ride to the shop again around noon and it is actually already open. Shopping together with Brigitte in a video chat and with the help of the two sales assistants in the shop is quite funny.
Today my trip leads around the Snæfellsnes peninsula, where I make an impressive detour to Snæfellsnesjökull. The road to and around the glacier is pretty much fun. There are also many sightseeing spots around the peninsula.
Since I am planning to make a detour to the volcano in Geldingadalir, I'm aware, that I still have to cover some distance today. I finally make it to Akranes, which has a beautifully located campsite, where I meet three young Israelis, with whom I have a lot of fun in the evening.
In the evening I also take a walk into the village, which – like most places here – is not really exciting.
