Day 14: Selfoss – Landmannalaugar

My route advisor Guðmundur suggested a trip to Landmannalaugar for today. Since I really appreciate the suggestions from Guðmundur, I take this excursion from here. It is actually ideal if you have a place from which you can go on excursions without luggage. Without the luggage it is a little more carefree.

The route into Landmannalaugar is not very difficult, only the water crossings require a little more concentration.

I realize that Landmannalaugar would actually need a lot more time and that it would be best to even hike through this area, as a German couple does, who are traveling with their teenage daughter with a tent and without a vehicle. For transport they use the public buses that also run on the highland roads.

The landscape is breathtaking and the photos only give a vague impression of it.

On the way back I pass the oldest excavated settlement, which is only worth seeing to a limited extent. The idyllic valley nearby, which really gives the impression of a fairytale landscape, is more worth seeing.

In the evening I will be fed again like a part of the family. The hospitality of the Icelanders is really impressive. Thanks for that!
