Day 06: Valpjofsstaðir – Möðrudalur

In the morning we decide to take advantage of the campsite's breakfast menu. The breakfast buffet is rich and tasty. The family that runs the campsite is really trying very hard.

Markus will stay here and wait for Oliver, who wants to pick him up with a battery charger. In the end, however, he gets the batteries charged on site and can later start to meet up with Oliver on his own.

Melanie, Marek and I ride north onto the ring road, which we soon leave in favor of a parallel gravel road. We only have to go back to the ring road for a short stretch and then turn onto another gravel road in the direction of Möðrudalur.

We make the very worthwhile detour to Sænautasel, where we get coffee and pancakes in a peat-covered old farm house before we continue to Möðrudalur, a small village with a nice campsite.

In the evening we have dinner in the campsite restaurant. For the next day we want to make a second attempt to ride to Askja, leaving our tents and luggage at the campsite.
