Wild Camp – Palmwag

Since we went to bed with the birds and the sunset around 9, we wake up around 6 with the birds again.

Apart from a few slightly restless moments we slept well. Actually rather amazing how quiet it was – no sounds during the night. Better this way.

Breakfast and let's go. Another 15 km on the "pad" to the next larger piste, which takes us to Palmwag via Bergsig with a mini shop (cornmeal, rice, some everyday stuff like soap and beer or alcohol in general).

Bought firewood along the road and passed a veterinary inspection. And saw an unbelievable number of not very old elephant droppings.

In Palmwag we fill up again and also fill an additional 20l canister. So we should be well prepared for the next few days in the Palmwag Consessions. We don't have a plan yet as to how long we will stay there and which routes we will drive.

Palmwag Rest Camp is better than expected even though the campsites a bit narrow to each other. Nice rest camp with campsites and bungalows, poolside bar and restaurant. Our campsite (No.4) has an nice view to the countryside, offers some shade, has electricity and water.

We have toast and fries for lunch, we check the news, wash a few things (it all gets dusty in hours), upload pictures – all very leisurely and relaxed.

Dinner in the restaurant with Markus and Karin, the two Swiss who have also arrived at the campsite in the meantime.

At 9:30 p.m., a somehow excited waitress comes to our table. She wants us to pay the bill because there is a lion in the area and Palmwag Lodge is not fenced. We quickly leave the restaurant and retreat to our roof tents. Deadly silence on the campsite for the next few hours except for a short walkie-talkie dialogue somewhere.
