Halali – Tsumeb

We start quite early to the Rhino- and then the Eland drive. At the beginning we get to see almost nothing and think "well, that was plenty yesterday".

In the direction to the salt pan we see rhinos again, one like a moving rock in the distance, one plopped down in the middle of the landscape and stretches out on all fours. Even for the animals it seems too hot.

For a while we watch an elephant walking leisurely in our direction and crossing the road only about 10m in front of us.

Finally we also see a warthog, galloping hyenas and as a highlight of the day a cheetah. Fleeting only the first time – the photographic evidence shows nothing more than a pattern of fur among foliage. Wolle then taunts it a second time under a tree and a third time a little further in the thick grass. Alone: we don't get a good photo. Nevertheless great experience!

We decide not to stay another night in the park and drive towards the east gate. Between Fort Namutoni and the gate suddenly 20-25 giraffes are crossing the road. They dutifully wait for us passing to cross the road. Very funny, like a school class on an excursion. We suspect that they will retreat from the salt pan to more densely overgrown areas before the next thunderstorm. And we're driving in the rain again.

The Kupferquelle Lodge and Campsite in Tsumeb is great – we have a site under a dense old tree on something like a lawn. We quickly set up the tent during a break in the rain, go out for dinner in the very good restaurant and treat ourselves to a bottle of wine.
