Olifantrus – Okaukuejo
The rain stopped at some point during the night, the tent held tight. And the car alarm that went off twice during the night wasn't ours!
After a moderately good night's sleep, we start off to Okaukuejo shortly after eight. We are rewarded with a fantastic day – good weather, great scenery, lots of animals: two elephants courting, a male kori bustard in courtship mode, springbok as large herds, ibex and maybe a Damara Dik Dik, lots of zebra and kudu, two secretarybirds and some other birds, ostriches, oryxes, giraffes. Only the warthog didn't show up.
After arriving in Okaukuejo, we first organize WiFi and charging the SIM card, try to get a shady place on the campsite and after a short espresso break (our cafetiere is simply a lifesaver), we set off for another small tour.
The time is good (16:30-18:30) - we see two rhinos about 100m off the road and later a bull elephant imposing in the flat grazing land. With a few giraffes our day ends and we are completely blown away.
Quickly setting up the tent, taking a shower and having dinner. Yes, today we're going to the restaurant, it's actually open! Luxury!
We are currently in the off-season. A lot of things are not working or are closed, the facilities are all a bit down – the slump in tourism due to Covid-19 hasn’t exactly done the tourist infrastructure any good here either.
