Windhoek – Waterberg-Plateau
We get up shortly after 6 a.m. In the morning there is the first “pink pill” (malaria prophylaxis) for breakfast, which leads to a first outburst of joy with tears in our eyes.
Up to Otjiwarongo we're quite fast on the paved road. Lunch is available in the Kameldorn Garden, where the chef has German ancestors. Then we make a second visit to the supermarket for everything we still lack. At a machine, we charge our SIM cards. It needs a while to understand how it works and that we have to use cash for the machine. You can add several vouchers to a SIM card later. To do this, you have to find out the correct number for the activation SMS, because the number printed on the vouchers was wrong in our case!
We continue to the Waterberg Rest Camp (NWR). Check in, look for a place and Brigitte realizes quite horrified that her glasses are missing. They are not at the reception either. This means that the planned afternoon hike is canceled and Brigitte and Wolle drive back to Otjiwarongo. We can clarify by phone that the glasses are not in the restaurant. Via a video check (!) a supermarket employee can clarify that Brigitte was still wearing the glasses when she paid in the supermarket (the receipt shows the necessary time).
The glasses are not found and we are frustrated and also stressed by the additional driving (about 160 km). In the evening we're heading to the restaurant and get a ride up there with a safari car. In the restaurant we get a nice special made from vegetables and fried potatoes (we are the only guests).
It's totally dark on the way back. Thanks to our headlights we not only see the way but also huge beetles.
Back on our camp site we are visited by a small group of bush babies (Galagos) in the trees, which we not able to take photos of due to the darkness.
