Aus - Ai Ais (Fish-River-Canyon)

Today the journey leads south along the diamond restricted area. After a stopover in Rosh Pinah to refuel, we reach the Oranje, the border river to South Africa, around noon. There is a lot of water, it is incredibly blue and clear and there is an incredible amount of vegetation around it. What a contrast with the days before.

We're looking for a picnic spot. A South African family camps next door and spends a whole week here. Very cozy place. We have some small talk and enjoy our picnic in the shade of our vehicles, sitting on the tailgate of the pickups. Then we enjoy splashing in the cooling water.

The route continues a little further along the border and along the river.
Once we take a stitch to the river until we are warned by the vehicle navigation system that we have just crossed the border. We quickly turn back!

Soon afterwards we turn north into the Gamchab River Canyon, an impressive 4x4 route through a dry river bed.

Our next camp site is Ai-Ais, right at the Fish River Canyon.
