Ghana is fun. A little wealthier, more tourist infrastructure, English-speaking, relaxed. We get holiday feelings and the moment when you think “Oh, we could have stayed here longer”. Although: A trip to Ghana is certainly nicer after the rainy season ends in August – greener, not so dusty and with a better view of the beautiful landscape.
The Mole Park is great. Not as spectacular as the parks in the South African region, but not as expensive either. And more approachable. You can go for a walk with the guides and get really close to elephants, for example. However, the baboons on the campsite also come quite close to us, too close!
Elsewhere later we also have a lot of fun with a group of Mona monkeys. We posted a nice video about it.
We visit waterfalls and enjoy the slightly mountainous landscape and the cooler night temperatures. We eat delicious vegetarian and even vegan food and visit a chocolate factory. But we also see demonstrations by students against child labor (on the cocoa plantations) and against corruption. And we learn a lot about the depressing history of the slave trade on a tour of Cape Coast Castle.
What's nice about our trip is that we always have lots of interesting conversations. In Ghana we are also increasingly meeting people who have their roots in Europe and Ghana. And we also meet other travelers regularly, which is always a great pleasure.
