Day 05: Hike around the Trogkofel
After breakfast we hike up to the Rudnigsattel, from where you can choose to continue to the Rosskofel or around the Trogkofel. We feel our legs from yesterday's hiking and are slowly walking up the mountain. It's very windy and cool on the Rudnigsattel. Since the view is not very well and our condition is not that good either, we decide to do the tour around the Trogkofel. Brigitte almost is blown off her legs when crossing the Rudnig saddle. After a while we leave the path on the saddle and walk on the southern side of the Trogkofel along the vegetation border on a well-laid path with beautiful views. We see two climbers climb a steep rock. Impressive. The southern circuit of the Trogkofel is completed by a short descent to the Rattendorfer Sattel, from which it goes quite steeply down to the Rattendorfer Alm, which is fortunately open (only managed by one person who takes care of everything). There we have lunch (cheese snack and meat noodles, the filling is as rosy as the skin of the freshly washed pigs in the nearby pen) and a well-deserved break. We buy some cheese that is made on the alpine pasture. It's not very far to the next Alm, the Tröpolacher Alm, but there are a few steep climbs. Unfortunately, the Alm is already closed, so we have to return to Sonnleitn without a coffee. After a total of 7.5 hours and about 18.7 kilometers, we arrive back at the apartment quite tired and with heavy legs.
After some relaxation and a shower, we get some food for the evening and enjoy a Prosecco on the balcony.
