Day 04: Hike to Gartnerkofel and Nassfeldpass

Before 9 a.m. we set off by car to the Gartnerkofel chairlift valley station. We take the chairlift up to the mountain station and climb up to the Gartnerkofel (2195m). The path is easy to walk and since we start from the mountain station, we are not very strenuous when we arrive at the summit cross. We are lucky and enjoy about 10 minutes alone at the top of the summit cross with a fantastic view. After a while other hikers arrive at the top and so we soon decide to start the descent. On the way down we watch with fascination how some climbers conquer via ferrata called the "Däumling". It is quite impressive with a Nepal bridge (you have to walk on a rope) and quite steep passages. At the mountain station we take a short coffee break and then walk to the Garlitzen Alm, which is just 30 minutes further. There we have some bread and a shandy there. We continue across the Italian border and to the Nassfeld Pass, where we have delicious pasta for a late lunch. Finally we descent to the valley station, where our car is parked. We take a quick look to see if there is a supermarket in Nassfeld with a better (Italian instead of Austrian) red wine than in the Hapimag shop, but the supermarket is closed. None of us will ever get used to the Zweigelt ...

Back at the apartment, we relax for the rest of the day. The approximately 11 km hike (without taking the lift) was ideal for the second day. A bit challenging, but not too much either.
