South Africa
We are already somewhat familiar with South Africa from a trip in 2016/2017.
On this trip we are only focusing on a few things:
We are visiting the wonderful Drakensberg because we want to do some hiking, which is unfortunately only possible to a limited extent due to bad weather.
We are taking 12 days for the Kruger National Park and driving from south to north. In retrospect, we could have made fewer stops and stayed longer at individual camps. Spotting animals is always a matter of luck anyway and nothing can happen in one place one day and a lot the next.
There are already three of us in the Kruger National Park, our friend Leo has joined us. After the Kruger National Park, Brigitte is going from Johannesburg back to Hamburg.
On Wolle and Leo's way to Namibia there are a few real highlights, including:
The Hluhluwe-iMfolozi Park, which we were very impressed with on our first trip.
And the Kgalagadi Transfrontier Park in the triangle formed by South Africa, Namibia and Botswana, which offers a great insight into the Kalahari.
We drove another 18,000 km, a total of around 50,000 km on both trips. Many of them were over hill and dale, i.e. quite challenging off-road tracks. In the Kalahari, the tray's attachment brackets on the frame finally broke and we almost lost the cabin. As so often happened, we were lucky in our misfortune and a welder performed a small miracle. So Becky is now safe and sound in Windhoek and will be made ready for off-road use again in January!
