Fes - Ifrane - Azrou - Midelt

Brigitte:

After a second good night and a delicious breakfast we head to Ifrane, a place that could also be in Switzerland. Created by the French around 1929 as a recreational and ski resort. With pointed gable roofs and much green. The route leads through gentle hills and flower meadows, between Ifrane and Azrou through mighty cedar forests. In Azrou we are lucky to visit the largest souk in Northern Morocco. A jumble of people and animals and vehicles. I would say we were the only Western tourists. But it was all very relaxed. People do not want to be photographed or you pay the few who allow it. The onward journey to Midelt is magical. We are passing by a stony and partly green plateau overlooking the snow-covered Atlas and Central Atlas. We feel we have arrived and now on vacation. Short stop for tea and some pastry in - I think - Zeïda. The people are very friendly, but it always ends up with trying to sell you something, in this case fossils. Our hotel for tonight turns out to be a major tourist station (Kasbah Asmaa) and this somewhat confirms our decision not to go to a desert camp with camels to spend the night there as we are only dealing with "mass tourism". Let's see how it goes on. The day today was wonderful as the day before.

Oh yes, we now know where all the old Mercedes will be sold to, they have a second life as taxi here. And sometimes I wonder what they fill up, our lungs are a little bit maltreated.

Oh yes, the motorcyclists from Algeciras are arriving later yet. Dinner is ok and the night is calm. Nevertheless, the hotel is not our favorite.
