Midelt - Ar Rachidia - Erfoud - Merzouga

Brigitte:

We get up quite early and after a moderate breakfast (the coffee wins the price of the worst ever!) we ride on at 9am already. The ride leads through fantastic landscapes, canyon-like mountains, oases with palm forests, clay brick villages and wide, wide views of the plain. In and around the villages are amazingly many young people with bicycles. It's hot today, now in Merzouga it's 33 degrees Celsius. Due to the construction, the towns are somehow dismissive, but when passing through Ar Rachidia we find a place for a tea and a flatbread. It is normal to sit down for a drink somewhere and get the food ordered somewhere else or vice versa. We pass by Erfoud, because we want to arrive early in our accommodation. We still want to explore the dunes. Once, very surprisingly, a dromedary crosses the street. And I have the first hallucinations and think, Wolle goes pretty fast on the gravel strip - and then there is none; a mirage! The Riad Totmarroc is a wonderfull accommodation, 11 rooms around a courtyard with a pool, which we actually use! We will have dinner here and at 6pm we will ride on two camels to the big dune, because walking is too difficult - dunes are not mountains our host tells us. And so we relax here or Wolle has to work again.

And who turns up? The German bike riders ... And so we do the camel trip together with them. Nevertheless nice and very impressive. It's funny to ride a dromedary. We climb to the dunes. Enchanting looks and many silly poses.
