Thursday: Meteora monasteries
Actually slept up to 4 or 5 not bad, but a bit freezing and in morning still a bit tired. After a rich breakfast with omelette, salad, biscotti, fruit we ride on to the monastery tour.
It is mega crowed everywhere. And it is silly that Brigitte has to wrap a towel around a pair of long trousers - because there is hardly anything to be seen of monks in the bustle.
Varlaám impresses with its pretty church. The frescoes show all kinds of martyr-slaughterings. We talk briefly with an Italian couple, who is also traveling by motorcycle. My getting to Greece by airplane is very appreciated by the Italian woman.
Metamórphosis is interesting because of the museum, but above all because of a really impressive collection of old books. The oldest is written or copied around 900, some very early prints around 1500 are also displayed.
Nikolaos Anapaphsas is small and little visited, but very some how "everyday" and it looks very comfortable.
In the early afternoon Wolle has to work a bit. After working and journaling, we went for a coffee. We don't visit the other two monasteries.
We have a walk to a rocky pin, watching steep-wall climbers.
Again dinner at the restaurant of our landlord, talked to the "Benjamin".
