Day 04: Saint-Martin-de-Ré (Île de Ré) – Saint-Jean-de-Luz
La Rochelle is impressive; the old harbor complex is massive. A short stroll through the town center, a bit of shopping, and then we’re off again. Spain beckons with the promise of more sun and warmth—or so we hope.
In Saint-Jean-de-Luz, just before the border, the lovely little campsite right on the beach promenade is fully booked, but we manage to secure a nice spot a bit further away at the larger Camping L’International.
Between a few rain showers, we head out in search of something to eat—a warm meal would hit the spot. The two beach bistros are closed (it’s raining too hard), and the food trucks are shut, too. However, we manage to get a small set menu at a hotel restaurant: a pâté to share, a large bowl of mussels each, and a dessert—more than enough. And, once again, delicious. That’s France for you! :-)
