Day 01: Hamburg – Boulzicourt near Charleville-Mézières

We set off at 7:00 a.m., and thanks to the school holidays, we’re out of the city in no time.

But: rain, rain, rain.

We decide to skip Monschau—hiking in the Eifel region wouldn’t be much fun in this weather.

Since things are moving along quite well despite the poor conditions, we manage to drive almost all the way to what was originally planned as our second stop: Reims.

But still: rain, rain, rain…

And so, we end up staying at a B&B for the night. "Au Beau Sejour," run by Elisabeth and Eddie in Boulzicourt, costs us 84 euros for a very lovely—if slightly kitschy—room in an old villa, plus 26 euros for a truly delicious breakfast. A fantastic choice; we felt completely at home.
