Vitoria-Gasteiz
Today Alvaro gives me a detailed tour to Vitoria-Gasteiz. I notice the many bay windows on the front of houses, a very specific architectural style.
During a heavy rain we spend the time in a mobilfone shop with the purchase of a Spanish SIM card for me. This card from the provider Orange will later also work on my way back through France. Perfect. It's only 10 Euros.
We buy tickets for the cathedral tour of the Catedral Santa María in the afternoon, which can only be visited on a guided tour. The dome is undergoing extensive restoration and is well known for inspiring Ken Follett to write The Gates of the World.
At lunchtime we take a snack in a tapas bar. Delicious tapas!
Alvaro shows us a lot of his hometown but surely there is much more to discover here.
In the afternoon the guided tour to the cathedral. Very impressive! Unfortunately, I don't understand the explanations, but that does not matter, because the cathedral is just great!
In the evening we do a little tour into the tapas bars of the city and I enjoy the loud Spanish atmosphere in the bars. The Spaniards beat the Italians in terms of volume and liveliness in the bars by far!
