My motorcycle (R1150GSA R21, 2003) has about 56400 kilometers on the clock before the trip.

In February, I had the service for 50000 km and the annual survey done. The rear brake pads are virtually new. The front brake pads, however, have not been replaced to my knowledge yet and will probably soon be due.

The last tire change took place at mileage 46243 km. Currently using Metzeler. Would still be ok for the journey to Madrid, where I wanted to lay two or three nights and get new tires. I thought of the Continental TKC 70 or the Heidenau Scout 60. I do not think that a knobble tire like the Continental TKC 80 is necessary, because the roads in Morocco are quite well, according to the reports of other travelers and I will not ride off road with my wife as pillion. Therefore, the first two tires are in my opinion a good alternative.

Unfortunately, the contact with a BMW motorcycle service in Madrid has shown that the Conti tires are probably not common there and thus they are very expensive. My suggestion that I bring the tires from Germany, has been rejected by the BMW workshop. No, they do not allow the customer to bring their own new tires. Therefore, I decided that I change tires and brake pads already in Hamburg.

On Friday 2015/04/10 I have got changed the new tires at BMW. Brake pads should still be good for the trip, they told me. I bought a set of spare pads, in case that it may be necessary to change them.
